Chris Gayle might just be winding down his illustrious T20 career as the self-proclaimed Universe Boss has decided not to register for the 2022 IPL auction set to take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.

The deadline for registration for the pool closed on Thursday (January 20) but Gayle’s name was not among the 1,214 players, who have made themselves available. It will be the first time since 2009 that Gayle will not play in the IPL.

Over the past 14 years, the now 42-year-old Jamaican has wielded his massive bat for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Punjab Kings.

In the 2012 season, he scored 733 runs at a strike rate of 160. The next year, he took the T20 world by storm with a career-high knock of 175 against Pune Warriors India. To date, Gayle has scored 4965 runs in 142 matches. His tally is the third-highest among overseas players, behind David Warner and AB de Villiers and seventh overall. He has an IPL-best six centuries and has hit 357 sixes.

In all, Gayle has scored a record 14321 runs in T20 cricket with 22 centuries, the most by any player.
