For Dancehall artist Chris Malachi, music is more than just a melody or a rhythm—it’s a means of connection, it is a bridge between individuals.
As a singer, songwriter, and mental health advocate, Malachi has made it his mission to infuse his lyrics with inspiration, fostering a sense of belonging and resilience among his listeners.
Raised in a deeply musical family, Malachi’s journey into music was almost inevitable. His household was filled with harmonies from the church, and as he grew older, he realised that music was not only his passion but his purpose. “Maybe at first it wasn’t necessarily to be the artist,” he reflects, “but living and growing, I realised that I have things to say.”
Malachi’s passion for the stage and delivering soulful performances were on full display during his set at the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Young Reggae Ambassadors concert for Reggae Month. As a lover of reggae music and its universal message of upliftment, the 31-year-old found community among his audience as he sang about his journey through music.
No stranger to adversity, Malachi has always taken a positive, level-headed approach to rising above challenges. While performing standout singles Hallelujah and Tek On Street, Malachi shared a special message to encourage patrons to believe in their ability to overcome adversity, reminding listeners that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
“I can look back at my life and tell someone that there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Music is a unifying force, bringing people together in shared experiences. In music, we can find community and ways of helping each other. My music is music from heart to heart,” he shared.
A believer in the power of community, Malachi sees music as a unifying force, bringing people together in shared experiences. His song Army Of Light embodies this sentiment, celebrating those who believe in love and light despite feeling isolated. “Sometimes, it seems like we’re not making a difference, but we have to realise we’re not alone.” As he continues to make his mark on the music industry, Malachi remains committed to his message of positivity and unity. His goal is clear: to create music that transcends boundaries, resonates deeply and most importantly brings people together.
