“Stay tuned” were two powerful words dropped by the young Christian Tavares-Finson following his swearing-in as one of the island’s newest Senators for the governing Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the Upper House.
Christian was publicly embraced by his extremely proud father, King’s Counsel Tom Tavares-Finson, who was reappointed as President of the Senate on Thursday, September 18, during the ceremonial opening of Parliament. The younger Tavares-Finson made a post on Instagram, beaming at his appointment.

“As I am sworn into the Senate of this Jamaica land we love, I am reminded what true service is,” the young Tavares-Finson posted on Instagram on Thursday following his swearing-in.
“It is without a doubt that through God all things are possible. With that guidance, I promise to serve my country with humility, honesty and integrity. Always putting the Jamaican people first.
“To my family, I will continue to make you all proud and fly the Jamaican flag high….This is my journey of building a better Jamaica. Stay tuned,” he wrote.

He was appointed as one of the newest government senators along with former Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica President Keith Duncan and attorney Rose Marie Bennett-Cooper.
The newcomers are among the 13 government senators appointed to the Senate on Wednesday, September 17, at King’s House. They replace previous senators Audrey Marks and Delano Seiveright, both of whom were recently elected to the Lower House as Members of Parliament, as well as the late Don Wehby.
