Delano Seiveright, chief strategist and adviser in the Ministry of Tourism, says it stands to reason that the Jamaican-owned Chukka Caribbean Adventures is now the biggest attraction tour company in the Caribbean.

Seiveright was reacting to news that Chukka recently collaborated with the Antigua and Barbuda Government to create, manage, and operate a new historical eco-adventure tour in Fort Barrington, Antigua.

“In addition to Jamaica, Chukka is also in Belize, Barbados, Dominican Republic, and Turks & Caicos. It also employs scores of persons, making it one of the largest employers of tourism persons… both in Jamaica and the Caribbean. This is a very big deal from a Jamaican-owned company, and we are very proud.”

Seiveright added that the Jamaican brand is well respected internationally and continues to spread its wings worldwide. He also credited sport stars such as Chris Gayle, Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Elaine Thompson-Herah for being premiere “brand ambassadors”, noting that their exploits on the global stage “are unmatched and in a league of their own”.

“Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett will gladly tell you that wherever he goes worldwide, the Jamaican brand is first class and first rated. Therefore, when we see companies like Chukka taking the Jamaican experience elsewhere…bigging up our tourism and culture…we have to give them a big shout out.”

“The development we expect to do there is to highlight and tell a great story about the rich history already there, while offering great activities for guest to enjoy.”

Chukka Chief Executive Officer Marc Melville

Chukka Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marc Melville said: “We are honoured to have been chosen as the development partner for this marquee historical nature adventure attraction. We look forward to working with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, the various ministries, and local partners/stakeholders to develop a world-class development at Fort Barrington.”

He added: “Chukka specialises in identifying marquee attractions and iconic sites and in doing that, we’ve had a look at Antigua and the list of gems they have, and we were able to locate one that we think could fit the criteria. The site is somewhat a diamond in the rough with great potential, our attempts at this stage are still now very preliminary but we’re in the process of seeing if there is a way forward for us on this site.

“The development we expect to do there is to highlight and tell a great story about the rich history already there, while offering great activities for guest to enjoy. The location provides an opportunity for many activities outside the fort.”

Melville continued: “As a Caribbean tourism entity, much of the COVID-related disruptions are now behind us and we are moving forward in the recovery. There are lots of opportunities out there and we still have a few more good announcements to make in terms of expansions which we expect to give at the appropriate time.”
