Twenty-four students from four corporate area high schools—Convent of Mercy Academy, Wolmer’s High School for Girls, Denham Town High, and Stony Hill Technical High School—recently participated in an enriching seminar aimed at preparing them for university or the world of work.
The students attended the seminar held at the Terra Nova Hotel as part of celebrations for International Women’s Day aimed to equip the budding leaders with essential insights as they prepare to leave school and move on to university or enter the workforce.
The session was led by Jerome Griffiths, the head of human resources at CIBC Caribbean, and saw the attendees given tips on job interviews and the correct dress for the workplace. Griffiths noted that it was “truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and eagerness for learning among these young women. We at CIBC Caribbean are committed to empowering the next generation of female leaders.”

Althea Laing, one of Jamaica’s premier supermodels, corporate image consultant and teacher, coached the students on the finer points of etiquette and social graces.
Laing a former cover model for international magazines including Essence, said she was “honoured to have shared insights gleaned from my journey with these bright young minds. Their receptiveness to etiquette and social graces bodes well for their future success.”

Sharon Wint Levy, the accomplished make-up artist behind Face Forward Cosmetics, delivered a masterclass on skincare and makeup application with eager participation by the students.
