In response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl in some sections of the island, CIBC Caribbean has made a donation of J$5,037,500 to Food for the Poor Jamaica (FFP).

The donation is designated to support the construction and furnishing of five homes for families who lost everything to the hurricane’s destructive force.

The initiative forms a crucial part of the ongoing recovery efforts to restore stability and security to the most vulnerable communities in Clarendon and St Elizabeth.

The official handover ceremony was held at the Food for the Poor Jamaica headquarters, where representatives from both organizations gathered to mark the significant occasion. The donation will enable the construction of new homes, fully equipped with essential furnishings, offering a fresh start to families who have been severely impacted by the hurricane.

Nigel Holness, managing director of CIBC Caribbean, expressed the bank’s commitment to aiding in the rebuilding process. “At CIBC Caribbean, we are deeply committed to supporting our communities, especially in times of crisis. This donation is about more than just providing shelter; it’s about restoring hope and dignity to families who have faced unimaginable loss. We are proud to partner with Food for the Poor Jamaica in this critical mission to rebuild lives and communities.”

Food for the Poor Jamaica has been at the forefront of disaster relief and recovery efforts in the region. The organization’s leadership expressed their gratitude for CIBC Caribbean’s generous support.

Susan Moore, Director of Projects and Social Intervention at FFP, stated, “The impact of Hurricane Beryl has left many families without a place to call home. With the support of CIBC Caribbean, we are able to provide not just temporary relief but a permanent solution for these families. The construction of these five homes, complete with furniture, will bring much-needed stability and security to those who need it most.”

Nahkyle Hado, Disaster Chairman and Director of Agriculture and Fisheries at FFP, added, “The devastation from Hurricane Beryl requires a comprehensive and sustained response. Thanks to the significant contribution from CIBC Caribbean, we are making strides in rebuilding communities. The homes that will be constructed and furnished with this donation represent a new beginning for families who have endured tremendous hardship. We are profoundly grateful for CIBC Caribbean’s commitment to this cause.”

This initiative aligns with CIBC Caribbean’s ongoing efforts to support resilience and recovery in Caribbean communities facing the challenges of natural disasters. The bank’s partnership with Food for the Poor Jamaica highlights the power of collaboration in driving meaningful change and helping communities rebuild stronger and more resilient than before.
