Caribbean Women in Leadership, CIWiL, notes the official confirmation that Dr Carla Barnett has been reappointed to serve a second term as Secretary General of the Caribbean Community, CARICOM, with her new term set to begin in August 2026.
Dr Barnett brings more than three decades of regional experience to this office, including senior service within the CARICOM Secretariat, the Caribbean Development Bank, and the Government of Belize. Her record of public service and regional leadership is well established.
CIWiL reaffirms its unwavering commitment to advancing a Caribbean vision that remains anchored in the wellbeing, dignity, and aspirations of its people. At this critical time, the region must continue to give focused attention to the issues that most profoundly shape our collective future, including economic resilience, climate change, gender justice, food security, human development, and democratic governance.
Sustained confidence in regional institutions is supported by clear communication, consistency in decision-making and a continued focus on collective priorities. CARICOM’s enduring value lies in its ability to bring member states together in pursuit of shared regional goals while navigating complex issues through dialogue and cooperation.
