Clarendon College celebrate winning the DaCosta Cup

Clarendon College avenged their Champions Cup loss to Glenmuir last weekend and put on a dazzling display of dominance to claim their 11th hold on the DaCosta Cup title.

It was an absolute demolition in the DaCosta Cup final held at the National Stadium on December 9.

From the opening whistle, Clarendon College was in prime form against their cross-parish rivals. Talisman Kaheim Dixon opened up the scoring in just the second minute of the game and it was clear that Clarendon College had no intention of surrendering their DaCosta Cup crown.

It would only take seven minutes for them to double the deficit with an incredible angled strike from Jahmelle Ashley at the goalkeeper’s near post.

Both Dixon and Ashley would strike again in the first half with second goals and the Lenworth Hyde-coached team went into the locker room with a suffocating hold on the match at 4-0.

Glenmuir seemed to have been a shadow of the side they were when they overcame CC in the Champions Cup just seven days ago, and they struggled to find any real footing on the pitch. They went into halftime with only 30% of the possession, and it would take a monumental and historic effort to make any dent in the defending champions.

Glenmuir seemed to have had a decent reset as the early stages of the second half provided their first goal. After an impressive build-up, the possession ultimately culminated in an own goal, to put Glenmuir on the scorecard.

However, in the 67th minute, the deficit would be restored with a stunning kick from distance from Deandre Gallimore. The Glenmuir goalkeeper was powerless against the strike and again Clarendon was up by four goals.

Orel Miller showed great composure in front of the goal after sticking with the ball after it rebounded onto his feet and he was able to display some skill with a bicycle kick into the net. This meant that Glenmuir was now down 5-2 with dying embers of hope.

However, it was Dixon who once again shut the door, as the prolific striker would render the crushing final blow with a goal two minutes into stoppage time. Dixon ended the night with a stunning hattrick and Ashley’s brace would be a notable contribution as well.

Speaking after the match during his Man of the Match interview, Dixon said the matchup was personal and he displayed that on the night. Lenworth Hyde confirmed that his team had vowed to “leave everything on the pitch tonight, so I’m so happy for them.”

McGrath High celebrate winning first Ben Francis title

Earlier in the night, McGrath High claimed their first Ben Francis title with a victory over former winners Frome Technical High. Dontae Anderson’s strike in the 50th minute was enough to secure the victory for McGrath and claim their first-ever hold on the knockout competition.

Clarendon College will now face first-time Manning Cup winners Mona High in the Olivier Shield next Wednesday at the National Stadium.
