Chris Paul a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest players to ever wear a Clippers jersey, didn’t exactly get a graceful farewell from L.A.
In the middle of a road trip, the team suddenly cut ties with him, leaving fans stunned and Paul blindsided.
The news broke when CP3 posted on Instagram in the dead of night, saying he had just found out he was being sent home from Atlanta, where the Clippers are set to face the Hawks on Wednesday. A short while later, team executive Lawrence Frank confirmed the Clippers are moving on without him and will help him sort out whatever comes next.
The Clippers’ season hasn’t gone well, with just five wins in 21 games and Paul, now 40, wasn’t putting up the dazzling numbers he once did. Still, many feel he deserved far better than an abrupt send-off. He’d been playing limited minutes off the bench, averaging about three points, three assists, and two rebounds per game.
This was Paul’s second stint in L.A., returning after being a central figure in the high-flying Lob City years with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan from 2011 to 2017. He bounced around the league for several seasons before reuniting with the Clippers this year.
So what happens now? Odds are he lands somewhere else before hanging it up for good and finally take his place in the Hall of Fame in Springfield.
