WASHINGTON (Reuters)

American cable television network CNN has fired host Don Lemon, the news anchor said in a post on Twitter on Monday (April 24).

A “stunned” Lemon, claimed that CNN reneged on its ;duty for decency’ as the 57-year-old broadcaster and journalist was informed of his termination by his agent.

Citing “larger issues at play”, the former CNN host wished the team the best in the future while lauding his 17-year run at the network.

Full statement reads:

“I was informed by my agent that I have been terminated at CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN I would have though someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue the work that I have loved at the network. It is clear there are some larger issues at play. With that said, I want to thank my colleagues and the many teams I have worked with for an incredible run. They are the most talented journalists in the business and I wish them all the best.”

In a statement of its own, CNN said the network and Lemon had parted ways.

Neither statement gave a reason for Lemon’s departure.
