After debuting in 1999 and having a gap year in 2001, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival came back alive in 2001, keeping its flame going until the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the April 2020 event in California, United States. In June last year, its rescheduled October 2020 date was also scrubbed and, now, Coachella has seen its April 2021 date cancelled as well.
The Stagecoach Festival, highlighting country music and which also takes place in California, has faced the same fate for its 2021 iteration after its own April and October 2020 dates were cancelled.
Artistes like Lana Del Rey, Calvin Harris, FKA Twigs, Lil Uzi Vert, Megan Thee Stallion, Disclosure, 21 Savage, Flume, DaBaby, Brockhampton, Big Sean, Lil Nas X would have appeared at the two-weekend Coachella.
Many people will be disappointed after hoping the pandemic would have subsided by now. Instead it has seen new strains of the coronavirus causing a third wave with an even higher infection rate.
The events were cancelled by through a public health order signed by Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the public health officer for Riverside County where the festivals are held annually.
Kaiser took to social media, via Twitter, to announce the cause of the cancellation due to the pandemic and to say the county was looking forward to when festivals could return.
No new dates have been announced.
