Consistent with its motto, “I am my brother’s keeper”, and its core belief in empowering people, the COK Sodality Co-operative Credit Union recently gifted items of food, clothing and toiletries to several persons in need.

COK was hosting its ‘Soup and Soap’ event, where it also supplied individuals with a cup of nourishing soup.

‘Soup and Soap’ was held at the Carib Theatre Car Park in Cross Roads, as one of several islandwide events organised by COK to mark Credit Union Month in October under the theme ‘EMPOWER your Financial Future with a Credit Union’.

“We appreciate that these are trying times and anything that we can do to make these difficulties more bearable for the most vulnerable in our society we are committed to doing.”

Deryke Smith, CEO of COK

COK CEO Deryke Smith noted that the credit union was committed to assisting those who required help by lending practical assistance through the donations to assist them in getting through today’s challenging times.

“We appreciate that these are trying times and anything that we can do to make these difficulties more bearable for the most vulnerable in our society we are committed to doing,” Smith said.

COK is hosting membership appreciation days and special displays at all its branch offices across the island where members are being feted and exposed to the benefits of credit union membership, including a range of educational fora in areas such as micro business financing, estate planning and the benefits of regular saving.

COK SODALITY PRIDES ITSELF ON ITS CO-OPERATIVE PHILOSOPHY

At the event, participant Norman Gordon said he was happy for the assistance, noting that “this really help mi to stan up on mi foot and I received really good quality things for my family”.

Mavis Johnson said she always looked forward to the assistance from COK, and added that she “really appreciated the brand name items” that were distributed.

With a broad range of financial products tailored to help its members accomplish critical life goals, such as home ownership, financing their education, starting a business and purchasing a motor vehicle, while building thrift through establishing solid savings and investment portfolios, COK Sodality said it prided itself on its co-operative philosophy, which has, as its centre, the reality of each member being a shareholder and democratic partner in the financial entity.

COK Sodality implemented a new digital banking system in recent years that allows members to do a wide range of transactions online and has introduced products such as its Eco Loan to facilitate green energy solutions, as well as a deferred savings investment product and a range of micro business loans, among others.
