Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda, says workmen have repaired and resurfaced a section of the Harbour View round-a-bout, which collapsed earlier this month due to heavy rains.
At least three cars got stuck in ditches caused by erosion to a section of the roadway undergoing repairs at the Harbour View round-a-bout in Kingston. The roadway that collapsed was being excavated by the National Water Commission (NWC) for new sewage lines.
“I am pleased to report that since then, we have responded swiftly, and the roundabout has been resurfaced. We want to thank the residents for their patience,” Samuda said.
For weeks, residents and passersby complained about an overflow of sewage along Norman Manley Boulevard in Harbour View, springing from a manhole close to Seascape, a newly developed housing scheme. In response, the NWC commenced work valued at J$84 million to repair a broken sewage main in the area.
Samuda shared that heavy rainfall caused infrastructure damage and disrupted the sewage repairs, but promised that the Government would work to address the issue promptly.
