The Government of the Republic of Colombia has extended a generous gesture of solidarity to the people of Jamaica through the donation of 22 tons of emergency relief supplies to assist victims of Hurricane Melissa.

The relief supplies were transported by 6 vessels of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), which sought safe harbour and were warmly received in Cartagena, Colombia, during the passage of the hurricane.

The vessels arrived on Tuesday at approximately 9:30 am in Port Royal, Kingston, where the supplies were officially received.

The symbolic handover ceremony took place in the presence of Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, and Emiliana Bernard Stephenson, Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Jamaica.

This act of cooperation underscores the strong bonds of friendship and mutual support that continue to characterise the bilateral relations between Jamaica and Colombia.

Bernard Stephenson reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to strengthening humanitarian collaboration and promoting closer ties between the two nations.
