There is growing concerns in the Caribbean today about possible cruise cancellations due to the increasing prospect of a cruise restart from the United States (US) this summer

Already Royal Caribbean International has announced the cancellation of its upcoming Vision of the Seas season from Bermuda, citing growing evidence of a cruise restart out of America this summer. A number of Caribbean islands such as Bermuda and Jamaica were identified as home port for cruise vacations by Royal Caribbean and Carnival cruise lines, given the restrictions in cruise shipping from American home ports.

In announcing the withdrawal from Bermuda, Royal Caribbean said in a press statement that, “the likelihood of cruises setting sail from the US this summer is greater each day, and with that, US travelers are increasingly showing a preference for more direct access to ports of departure”.

Explanation given for the cancellation

The cruise line explained that the cancellation does not affect any other open deployments. In late March, Royal Caribbean reported that the Vision would launch seven-day cruises from Bermuda, which was to be its second ship to resume service for North Americans from just outside US borders this summer.

It still has cruises from Nassau on the Adventure of the Seas slated to launch in June. The cruise line advised that it will still carry passengers to Bermuda on several ships across its fleet.

It is the second change to its summer schedule of sailings outside of the US in the past week. Royal also redeployed the Odyssey of the Seas from Haifa, Israel, to Florida, citing the unrest in the region.

The Odyssey was set to launch cruises from Haifa on June 2.
