Respected British luxury travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, has listed Jamaica’s capital Kingston as one of the ‘best holiday destinations’ for 2022.

CN Traveller, in a feature published last Thursday (November 4) just before the busy 2021-22 winter tourist season kicks off, said that it “pulled together the places that will be truly making their mark in the year ahead”.

Kingston was named in an impressive list with the likes of Olso, Norway, Egypt, Menorca (part of Spain’s Balearic Islands) and New Orleans as the best recommendation for culture lovers.

In its write-up of Jamaica’s bustling capital, CN Traveller remarked that while Kingston is “somewhat overlooked by holidaymakers”, the city “is shrugging off its unsafe image, claiming a new identity as a spirited cultural hub overflowing with multicultural restaurants, world-class galleries and carnivals to rival the spectacles of Rio”.

“And 2022 poses a prime opportunity for Jamaica, as the year marks the country’s 60th anniversary of Independence. Festivities will be held throughout the island all year and, come August, the Jamaica Carnival (Bacchanal) will flood the streets with feather headdresses, floats and stirring steelpan drums,” Condé Nast Traveller continued.

The magazine sung praises of Kingston’s nearby surf beaches, which it said, “are also luring in ahead-of-the-curve crowds”.

In its 2022 primer, CN Traveller also included its best lists for food enthusiasts, adrenaline junkies and adventure bonafides, as well as destinations more catered to families seeking to unwind for the new year.
