Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged the Jamaican populace to vote for performance rather than promises after he cast his vote for Fayval Williams as she battles to retain her Eastern St Andrew seat ahead of the People’s National Party’s Patricia Duncan-Sutherland.

Eastern St Andrew was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as the Mona High School played host to residents, the Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness and the PNP’s Chairman Dr Angella Brown-Burke.

Both Dr Holness and Dr Burke voted for their respective candidates, incumbent Fayval Williams, Minister of Finance of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), and Patricia Duncan-Sutherland of the People’s National Party (PNP).

Dr Holness, who lives in Beverley Hills, said Williams should retain her seat based on her performance as the Member of Parliament (MP) for his community, Eastern St Andrew, a seat the PNP is targeting.

“You know, Fayvel has been a very good Minister of Finance, I must say. Fayvel has her own unique style, and people sometimes underestimate her,” said Dr Holness, responding to a question from Our Today.

“But if you talk about the strength of a woman, that’s Fayval. She’s a strong person. She’s not overbearing. She doesn’t seek to come and dominate. She’s very humble,” he explained.

“But people tend to not realise, Fayval is a brilliant lady, but what I’m saying is she’s academically accomplished, and she was before she entered politics, a successful businesswoman. So, she understands the field of finance very well, and she’s been able to execute very well,” he added.

“As an MP, I’m sure she would have surprised me, and she continues to work. There are always complaints, always in every constituency, but I expect that Fayval will come home strongly as well,” said Dr Holness.

In 2020, Fayval Williams got 6,954 votes and defeated the PNP’s Venesha Phillips with 4,642 votes.
