As Jamaica’s logistics sector faces turbulence following DHL’s decision to reroute clearance operations from Kingston to Montego Bay, one emerging carrier has stepped into the gap with a promise of reliability, speed, and innovation.

Connex Air Cargo, the first Jamaican, Miami-based air freight company, is being hailed as a practical answer to the mounting challenges voiced by customs brokers and businesses across Kingston.

With businesses worried about increased costs and shipment delays, Connex offers a viable lifeline: direct, same-day flights between Miami and Kingston with efficient turnaround service for imports and exports.

Luke Hamilton, chairman of Connex Air Cargo, explained the broader mission: “This is more than just a business—it’s a movement. Connex was created to empower Jamaica and Caribbean commerce, support small, medium and commercial businesses, and deliver the reliability the market has been demanding for decades.”

The carrier, which successfully launched its inaugural flight from Miami to Kingston on July 28, has already begun building a reputation for being responsive to the needs of couriers, manufacturers, auto businesses, pharmaceutical brokers, and exporters.

Its service model allows for cargo acceptance at bonded warehouses in Miami up to Saturday evenings, ensuring clearance in Kingston by or before 9:00 am for Mondays and return export service by midday the same day.

Natalie St. Louis, strategic corporate consultant for Connex, underscored the company’s role during this period of transition: “Connex was built for a time like this. In the face of uncertainty, we are offering reliability. In the midst of disruption, we are bringing stability. Connex represents the bold, innovative spirit of Jamaica—positioned to support our couriers, medical distributors, brokers, e-commerce and retailers, manufacturers, small, medium and commercial businesses, and exporters with timely, affordable, and secure air cargo solutions that protect their bottom line and strengthen the economy.”

With a business model focused on time-sensitive cargo, cold chain readiness, real-time tracking, AI-powered booking, and dedicated customer support, Connex is not only addressing immediate concerns but also setting the stage for Jamaica’s long-term logistics resilience.

Industry observers note that the company’s swift entry into the market has come at a critical juncture, offering Kingston’s business community renewed confidence that the capital remains at the centre of regional trade.
