Production in construction is on an upward trajectory, going up by 0.1% in the Euro Area and 0.4% in the European Union (EU) during the month of August.

In its latest data Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union reports that year-over-year construction is down 2.5% in the Euro Area and by 2.4% in the EU compared with August 2023.

In the previous month of July 2024, production in construction fell by 0.5% in the Euro Area and by 0.3% in the EU.

Production in construction in Euro Area for August compared with July 2024:

• increased by 0.9% for construction of buildings,
• decreased by 2.1% for civil engineering,
• increased by 0.3% for specialised construction activities.

Among Member States for which data are available, the highest monthly increases in production in construction were recorded in Sweden (+7.2%), the Netherlands (+6.3%) and Romania (+4.7%). The largest decreases were observed in Slovakia (-4.3%), Belgium (-3.2%) and Slovenia (-3.1%).

Among Member States for which data are available, the largest annual decreases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (-17.1%), Slovakia (-10.9%) and Hungary (-6.0%). The highest increases were observed in Bulgaria (+5.5%), the Netherlands (+2.5%) and Portugal (+2.0%).
