Social media content creator Negus Imara has offered his apologies and defended dancehall legend Elephant Man in two video posts released over this past week (August 29 and August 31).
The apology videos stem from an interview Elephant Man did with The Fix podcast where, in addition to his legacy and other topics, he explained that he blocked Negus on social media because, while he supported the young comedian’s right to make content, he viewed the content being created about him as purely negative, and damaging towards his brand.
In his apology video, Negus says he got caught up in the likes and views and never considered Elephant Man’s feelings about his content.
“My intent was never to be malicious,” said Negus as he indicated that Elephant Man is one of the artistes he admires the most.
Negus then released a follow-up video stressing that no one intimidated him into an apology,
“Elephant Man has a right to feel how he feels and I acknowledge that because if anybody played with my brand, I’d feel the same way. Elephant displayed a level of humility that I have never seen in a lot of these Jamaica artistes. When I watched the video and see my favourite artiste feel some type of way about the content I create, that makes me feel some type of way,” said the comedian.
