Constable Tarequie Wright, who was shot during a traffic stop along Maxfield Avenue in Kingston yesterday afternoon, is in stable condition.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), in providing an update on the cop’s condition, shared that he remains under hospital supervision.

Reports are that Wright, along with his colleague Constable Akeem Allen, were conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Maxfield and Balmoral avenues when a man disarmed Allen and used the service firearm to shoot Wright in his hand and leg.

Wright was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) by the same motorist whose documents was being examined during the traffic stop.

The unidentified suspect escaped with the stolen firearm in the Richmond Park area. He is of a dark complexion and a slim build. He is also six feet tall and was wearing a ‘cut-off foot’ pants.

The incident caused a huge traffic build-up in the Half-Way Tree area when police officials closed a section of the road to inspect the crime scene.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the incident.
