A Coroner’s Inquest opened into the death of British national Lisa Jo-Ann Ball has been suspended pending the outcome of criminal investigations in Jamaica.

Ball, who hails from Keighley, West Yorkshire, died at the Falmouth General Hospital in Trelawny on May 29, a week after her 53rd birthday. A post-mortem report from Jamaica and other documentation had allowed the inquest opening into Ball’s death to take place.

Opening and suspending the inquest at Bradford Coroner’s Court in England on Tuesday (September 2), assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst told the inquest that Ball’s death was a result of a road traffic collision.

“These proceedings are moving towards a trial hearing,” Brocklehurst told the court, adding, “We are in contact with the police service in Jamaica, and we are awaiting further details from them.”

Brocklehurst reported that due to “criminal proceedings in Jamaica”, the inquest is being suspended until October 17, 2025. Lisa’s daughter, Chloe Watson, told the T&A that she was “still in the dark about mum’s death”.

According to Chloe, “me and her four granddaughters are heartbroken and miss and love her so much.”

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Jamaica and are in contact with the local authorities.
