Unicomer Group, through its Courts brand, today (August 23) contributed to the educational advancement of 48 scholarship recipients through its Dare to Dream Scholarship Programme.
For more than 30 years, Unicomer has been heavily investing in education, providing students the opportunity to study without the burden of financial constraints.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Edwin Vacquerano, managing director of Unicomer Group, shared that he was proud to be a part of an organisation contributing to the youths’ educational advancement.
“The current programme seeks to give back and provide financial assistance to loyal customers for their support. Dare to Dream is now in it’s 11th year and we are proud to have been able to assist some of our students with financing their education,” Vacquerano said.

He added that “Unicomer Groups believes that the pillars of a thriving society will be grounded in educated and empowered people”.
In an effort to help recipients fulfill their dreams, scholarships and grants were awarded in three different categories.
Dare to Dream 2022 awarded four full scholarships valued at $400,000 over a four-year period and six grants valued at $250,000 for one academic year to students at the tertiary level. There were also 10 skills training scholarships valued at $50,000 for any HEART institution.
Additionally, 28 PEP scholarships were awarded at a value of $100,000 each.
In her powerful and heartfelt remarks as guest speaker, Emprezz Golding spoke to the recipients, encouraging them to have a mantra that drives them everyday.

In an effort to get them started, she encouraged all recipients to recite the following success mantra:
“I deserve this scholarship and opportunity. I am destined for big success in life. I am growing expanding and thriving. My thought are filled with positivity. My life is plentiful and prosperous. My obstacles are moving out of my way. My path is carved toward greatness.”
Shirley Moncrieff, acting director and partnership management at the National Education Trust (NET), spoke about the positive impact that came with NET’s partnerships with Courts and Unicomer.
She expressed that “together we must all continue to press ahead to build even greater partnerships that will significantly improve the lives of us children and those that are most in need”.
She added that, “in Jamaica, it is no secret that many of our children lack the basic necessities to access quality education”.

In addition to receiving grants and scholarships, recipients were also afforded the opportunity to win a laptop and a printer.
The recipients upon arrival were instructed to fill out forms that made them eligible to win. The selection process took place in the form of a raffle.
Each recipient’s name was placed in a bag and a random selection made. From this selection, two students were awarded laptops and another two received printers to contribute to their studies.
