Unicomer Group, though the Courts Optical brand has donated $300,000 to the Corinaldi Avenue Primary School to cover the cost of testing and glasses for members of the school choir and music department.
The Corinaldi Avenue Primary School in St James continues to be a juggernaut among educational institutions in Western Jamaica.
The school choir learns a broad repertoire of music and performs at school, in the community, and at contests, including the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s (JCDC) Jamaica Children’s Gospel Song Competition.
ELATED ABOUT DONATION
Students also develop their voices in groups while improving their individual technique and music theory skills.
“We very elated about the donation,” said Acting Principal Deon Stern-Anglin.
“When the sponsorship was announced, one of the students went quickly to one of the booths, to see if he could get on board, and get started.”
The sponsorship, said Stern-Angling, is timely because it will help many of the students, as well as parents, to offset costs for those needing glasses.
“We realise that many students are having issues with their eyes. They were using devices throughout the pandemic, and this certainly has taken a toll on their eyes,” the acting principal said.
Courts Optical is the largest and fastest-growing optical chain in the Caribbean with the latest brands of frames and high quality of lenses.
Its 12th location was recently opened in the Courts Barnett Street branch.
“We understand that proper eyecare and eye health is essential to a child’s ability to learn and do well at school.”
Unicomer Jamaica Limited Brand Manager Simone Mahabeer
Unicomer Jamaica Limited Brand Manager Simone Mahabeer said the school is just metres away from the newest location of Courts Optical in Montego Bay, and it was considered a fitting opportunity that would benefit the community in which the branch operates.
“We understand that proper eyecare and eye health is essential to a child’s ability to learn and do well at school,” she said.
“CSR (corporate social responsibility) is a large part of the Unicomer Jamaica mandate and we have worked continuously to improve the lives of Jamaicans for decades,” she added.
“We serve our communities with pride and this extends far outside of the confines of our stores. Through this Courts Optical brand and the brighter views initiative we have been able to give over 1,000 pairs of glasses to students in need.”
