PNP Women’s Movement President Patricia Duncan Sutherland has responded to the comments made by Ian Hayles and Richard Azan on the campaign trail in Clarendon on the weekend about Central Manchester MP, Rhoda Crawford.

In a release earlier today, Duncan Sutherland noted that “…those comments have no place in a conversation on leadership and as a society we must learn to criticise the work of women without questioning their worth.”

She went further to say, “We have started the conversation with both men and explained the impact of their comments and we hope that they will reflect and apologise.”

Duncan Sutherland contended that following a discussion and agreement We also came to an agreement PNP General Secretary Dayton Campbell, the Women’s Movement will “design and execute a programme of conversation and sensitization in partnership with the secretariat for all our leaders on how we can systematically uproot the patriarchal beliefs and culture that continue to undermine our collective commitment to respect, equality and partnership in our country.”

“We recognise that as a movement we have two roles to play in this process. We must hold our male counterparts to account as well as facilitate the conversation such that the awareness and the understanding of both men and women break the mindset and cultural norms. This is a moment for learning, conversation and sensitisation. We have work to do.” Duncan Sutherland said.
