As the 43rd meeting of Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government gets under way today (July 3), the implementation of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), food security and governance will be among the key matters for consideration.
CARICOM Secretary-General Dr Carla Barnett, speaking ahead of the Summit, said Guyana President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali is to present a report following the CARICOM Agri Investment Forum and Expo.
Ali holds responsibility for agriculture in the CARICOM Quasi Cabinet.
The wide range of issues of importance to CARICOM that the Heads of Government will discuss include governance, and the way decisions are taken and implemented in the Community.
“We’re expecting that it will be a very fruitful meeting and we’re working towards that,” Barnett said.
The Meeting opens at 6pm at the Assuria Event Centre in Paramaribo, Suriname.
