Two months ago, the United States invaded Venezuela and captured President Nicolas Maduro.

This week  United States and Israel continue to launch airstrikes on Iran, destroying 51 of its warships and severely damaging the capital, Tehran.

Now President Trump has set his sights on Cuba and says the oil embargo is crushing its economy, and now its government wants to make a deal.

The President of the United States says Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is of Cuban descent, will negotiate on behalf of the United States.

Speaking at his Doral resort in Florida, President Trump said: “Cuba trusts Marco and so to do the people of the United States. He has been successful wherever he has been. He also speaks the language.

“It may be a friendly takeover, it might not be a friendly takeover. We are bringing democracy to the people of Cuba. Cuba is now down to fumes. They have no energy, no money. They are in deep trouble on a humanitarian level. The Castro regime was brutal but all that is about to change.

“Without Venezuela, they couldn’t have made it, and we cut them off from everything else. They are going to make a deal or we will do it just as easy.”

Economic activity in Cuba is grinding to a halt and Caribbean countries are fearful to be seen helping their neighbour. The United States boa constrictor squeeze is literally crushing the life out of  the country. The question is whether the citizens there will turn on their Government, denounce what Castro put in place and call for Trump.

The President continued: “ We are looking forward to the great change that will be coming to Cuba. Cuba is at the end of the line. They have a bad philosophy. They have a regime that has been bad for a long time. They want to now negotiate.”

President Trump’s stance has caused much trepidation across the Caribbean. Governments are skittish and are abandoning Cuba to its fate.

The friendship and bonds that go back over sixty years have given way to survival and not being next on Trump’s list.

Jeffery Pozen, a consultant who worked in the Senate office in Washington with the Senator from South Carolina, Lindsey Graham, said: “All these little Caribbean countries who were pally with Cuba had better get real familiar with the Don-Roe Doctrine. It is now in full effect. They all now need to step in line like Trinidad& Tobago and behave themselves. It is not just their visas they stand to lose.

“Jamaica has formed an alliance with China and that will not be tolerated. China needs to get out of the Caribbean and we will not take kindly to those who form ties with them.

“If Jamaica is not careful it will be next after Cuba. President Trump is not playing.”
