Curfew imposed in Dunkirk after fatal shooting

A 48-hour curfew has been imposed in a section of the Dunkirk community in east Kingston after one person was killed and six injured during a gun attack at the Michael Manley Market.

The curfew took effect at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will remain in effect until 6 p.m. on Thursday.

The boundaries of the curfew are along North Avenue, from Cumberland Avenue to West Avenue; and Upper Elletson Road, from Windward Road to Cumberland Avenue.

Additionally, the boundaries include Cumberland Avenue and Lincoln Avenue, from Upper Elletson Road to North Avenue, and Windward Road from West Avenue to Upper Elletson Road.

Reports are that on Tuesday, gunmen approached the Michael Manley Market and randomly opened gunfire on individuals in the area. One man was shot and killed. A one-year-old boy was also among six shot and injured during the attack.

The victims were taken to the Kingston Public Hospital for treatment.
