There is never a dull moment on Jamaican Twitter, but it seems Member of Parliament for West Rural St Andrew Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn is tired of the space and its ‘toxicity’.

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) MP decried the platform’s penchant for ‘virtual bullying’ after scolding a constituent who correspondingly lamented the poor state of roads.

“Social media is so toxic. We style people daily in this space and when they don’t get a response they like dem cry wolf. A braveness exist that would never happen in real face to face (sic),” she wrote today (February 18).

That was not her stance just hours earlier, however, when she reprimanded a ‘green mango’ for ‘styling’ her as ‘dis woman’.

“All wa gwan mi feel like if Tomlinson did win uppa mi yaad meeda get road by now… Dis other woman deh pan vibes,” tweeted user @Rio_Watchusayin.

Cuthbert-Flynn, whose attention was brought to the tweet, initially replied: “How dare you style me as dis woman. You have no manners. I am sure your mother taught you better! The name is Juliet Cuthbert-Flynn. Next time use it! You are really a green piece a mango.”

The mango comment, in reference to the user’s profile name, “Chilly™ ᴛʜᴇ ɢʀᴇᴇɴ ᴍᴀɴɢᴏ”, was deleted soon after.

Obviously not ready to let the matter rest, the MP returned to berate the Jamaican for his “rude and crude” mannerism, with Cuthbert-Flynn insisting that she boasts many titles by which he could address her in the future.

“Let me remind you of dis woman. I am a mother, wife, sister, double Olympic silver Medallist, abuse survivor, Businesswoman and Member of Parliament. Next time choose one of the above to style me,” the state health minister continued.

“You are rude and crude. Dis woman! You crude men! We wonder why women are disrespected daily? You are a part of the problem in our society. You will not style me and I not respond and tell you it’s wrong?” added Cuthbert-Flynn.

Twitter users, back with the wit, trolled the MP for trying to gaslight her constituent into submission for a genuine critique over the state of roads in West Rural St Andrew—all while not disrespecting her or explicitly naming the affected areas.

Others noted that despite her many ‘titles’, Cuthbert-Flynn failed to meaningfully address the concern but instead chose to pander to a ‘gender-based victimisation’ of how she felt the tweet maligned her as a woman.

Overall, the timeline remains in a shambolic state after emotions raged high when Dennis Meadows and Krystal Tomlinson duked it out hours earlier.
