CVM-TV, a subsidiary of the Verticast Media Group, has severed ties with controversial attorney, Isat Buchanan, over his distasteful comments aimed at Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Paula Llewellyn.
Buchanan has been relieved of his duties as co-host of the morning television programme CVM at Sunrise. This comes a day after the People’s National Party (PNP) accepted his resignation as chairman of its Human Rights Commission.
Buchanan, who has not appeared on the show in the last two months, was employed under a freelance contract to co-present CVM at Sunrise. CEO of the Verticast Group, owners of CVM TV, Oliver McIntosh has promised to issue a statement on the matter.
In the meantime, the embattled attorney issued an apology and recanted the disparaging remarks made at the island’s top prosecutor. In his apology yesterday, Buchanan declared that advocating for freedom of expression should not come at the expense of demonstrating exemplary decorum, especially in public channels.
Buchanan was captured in a viral video quoting lyrics from the song, ‘The Menace‘ by incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, in reference to Llewellyn.
CVM issued a statement which reads: “Regarding recent comments made by Isat Buchanan concerning Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, CVM Television would like to clarify that Buchanan was contracted as a co-host of the SUNRISE morning show and was not an employee of CVM.
“Furthermore, Mr. Buchanan has not been contracted as a co-host for the SUNRISE morning show for several months. That being said, as a result of the remarks made by Mr. Buchanan towards the Director of Public Prosecutions which do not align with the values of CVM, we have decided to terminate any further contracts with Mr. Buchanan for all of our programming (as host or guest) effective immediately.
“We express our gratitude to Mr. Buchanan for his past contributions and extend our best wishes for his future endeavours.”
