In keeping with its implementation of several relief measures to address the apprehensions of teachers and students with regard to the sitting of upcoming examinations, Education Minister Fayval Williams says the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) will on Friday (May 7) release the broad examination topics, for paper two exams.

The minister made the announcement while addressing various education stakeholders and media practitioners at a Post Cabinet Briefing held earlier today (May 5).

The release of the broad examination topics for paper two exams is one in a number of relief measures implemented by the council in light of the damning effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on students in the region.

Other relief measures implemented by the council have included:

  • a reduction in the valuation of Student Based Assessments (SBAs) by as much as 50 per cent for some subjects.
  • an extension in the submission deadline of practical SBAs to June 30
  • a deferral option for students set to sit examinations this year to do so during the January or May/June sitting of 2022.
  • an extension in the deadline for deferrals from May 1 to May 14
  • a transference of SBA scores for use in subsequent examination sittings
  • option for delayed SBA submission until chosen sitting
