Jamaican singer Dalton Harris is accusing the London police of racial profiling after he was detained last Friday (February 5) for unexplained reasons. Harris, who won the popular UK X-Factor show back in December 2018, has been mostly living in the British capital since then.
On Friday, Harris broke the news on his verified Twitter account that London police detained and racially profiled him. While the Jamaican Rising Star winner did not provide a reason for the encounter with the London police, instead he opined that ‘London is becoming America’, in reference to racial profiling.
According to Harris, “the cops literally just reprimanded me because I was wearing a hoody and is black so they thought I was intending on robbing parked cars in the parking lot of a super market in my market run.
Explaining that he was going for a run and was wearing a black hoodie and a mask due to COVID-19, Harris claimed that he was approached by four police officers, who he said harassed and detained him.
The Jamaican singer reported that he was later released and not taken into custody. Harris decried the approached of the police saying that they treated him like an armed criminal.

Harris tweeted that he was the only one with a mask on. According to Harris, “You don’t feel like it in the moment cuz you are shocked but afterwards you realize the violation that racial profiling is.”
He drew reference to similar stories in the news, “You would be aware of the countless incidents of police killing African Americans across the United States over the past several years.”
While Harris is of the view that his encounter with police officers in London was racially motivated, he conceded that it is a far cry from what black people are facing in America, as they’re often killed or beaten to a pulp, often for no reason.
