Reggae Boyz Captain Damion Lowe has been signed as Digicel Jamaica’s newest brand ambassador, the telecommunications company announced yesterday (June 17).

Lowe, 28, joins a throng of sports and entertainment stars that include Usain Bolt, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Briana Williams, Alphanso Cunningham; entertainers Bounty Killer and Jesse Royal; as well as media personalities Khadine ‘Miss Kitty’ Hylton and ZJ Sparks.

“I’m happy and proud to be a part of the Digicel Jamaica family. Digicel has been a powerhouse in both sponsorship and support of football across Jamaica and the Caribbean for many years,” Lowe said.

“I look forward to adding to that legacy. I’m excited to work with their team and the other ambassadors under the Digicel umbrella.”

In his new role with Digicel, Lowe is expected to inspire fans and football enthusiasts and serve as a mentor and role model for those who aspire to make it the world of football and sports, in general, Digicel said.

Chief Marketing Officer for Digicel Jamaica, Nasha-Monique Douglas, said that given his experience representing Jamaica internationally and participating in leagues in the US, Europe, and Egypt, the international defender will serve as an excellent role model and mentor for young and aspiring footballers across the country.

“Damion has represented his country brilliantly and his talent has been recognized by teams and leagues across the world,” she said.

“His work ethic and dedication to perfecting his craft make him an ideal brand ambassador for Digicel as we continue to inspire younger generations of Jamaicans to strive for excellence. We are delighted to have him as a brand ambassador, and we look forward to the tremendous positive impact that this partnership will deliver for our customers.”

Primarily a centre back, Lowe is the son of former Jamaican international Onandi Lowe. Since 2016, he has suited up for the Reggae Boyz on 22 occasions, scoring twice.

He attended Camperdown High School in Kingston and played youth football at Harbour View F.C. in east Kingston.

He eventually matriculated to the University of Hartford where while playing for the Hartford Hawks, was named to the America East All-Tournament Team in his first season and again in his final year.

In his three years at school in Connecticut, Lowe was named to the Second Team All-Northeast region, First Team All-America East, and All-America East Tournament Team.

In the three years, Lowe played 44 games, scoring eight goals and assisting in three.
