A week after releasing her new single, Single Mother, and in recognition of Mother’s Day, Michelle ‘D’Angel’ Downer, the first lady of Dancehall, has indicated that there has been an outpouring of good reviews from fans.

On YouTube, her official release of the song has gotten approximately 26,000 views in 11 days with more positive comments than negative.

During an interview with Our Today immediately after her performance at the Hyundai Miss Universe Jamaica Sashing Showcase 2025, which was held at AC Hotel in St. Andrew on Sunday (May 18), D’Angel gave an update on the reception of the track.

Single Mother is a song that I did in dedication for all single mothers that have been fighting the fight, but still manage to hold it down for their children, for their household. It’s a song from the heart for all single mothers. Just for them to understand that they’re not alone, and I’m standing with them,” D’Angel said.

“I tend to pour it all in my music. It has been out just one week now, [released] prior to Mother’s Day, and it has been getting a lot of rave reviews. It has been noted as my best song to them; to everyone. It has given people hope and strength,” she said.

The main reason she said the song has been getting good reviews is because she believes “people want messages that heal the soul”.

Single Mothers was written and produced by Khago for Long Chain Global Junavill Records. D’Angel told Our Today that she was introduced to the words of the song while in the studio some time ago with Khago.

“While we were at the studio, it just manifested, and I think it was just the right time [in time for Mother’s Day], and I think it’s just destined. This song is just destined to happen at this time. It’s been received so well. I’m even surprised about how the song has been received,” D’Angel explained to Our Today.

“And even the single fathers are embracing this song, so it’s just amazing,” she said.

She was frantic that time and the mood did not allow her to perform Single Mothers on the stage at the Hyundai Miss Universe Jamaica Sashing Showcase 2025, but she still delivered a sensational performance on stage.

On stage, while in a full black glove bodysuit, D’Angel did renditions of her yesteryear hits, such as Hot Gyal a Road, Blaze, No Worries, Living Uptown and I’m Blessed.

While performing one hit after another, D’Angel had the audience singing along while delivering runway craze and then calling for a rendition of her performance, of which she delivered on, and calling up Shevauni Powell, Mr Supranational Jamaica, to perform with her to Marvin Gaye’s song Sexual Healing

At the event, all 30 finalists at the regional level of the Hyundai Miss Universe Jamaica were officially sashed as they started their competition for the coveted crown.
