Honey Bun Limited has tapped Daniel Chong to assume the role of chief executive officer, effective October 1.
He succeeds his mother, Michelle Chong, who has led the company for over 40 years, transforming it from a small family bakery into one of Jamaica’s most recognised publicly listed brands.
Daniel, who joined the company in 2010, has played a pivotal role in Honey Bun’s expansion and modernisation. He first served as chief operations officer before being appointed to the board of directors in 2022 and deputy CEO in 2023. His elevation to CEO was confirmed at the company’s most recent board meeting.
Working alongside the outgoing CEO, Daniel has contributed significantly to Honey Bun’s success. He spearheaded the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics ERP software, advanced automation and digitisation across core operations, and drove the development of new products. He also championed internationally recognised quality management systems that strengthened the company’s reputation for excellence.
Among his many achievements, Daniel helped secure three of the four properties now owned by Honey Bun and oversaw the expansion of its operations from 10,000 to 42,000 square feet. He was also instrumental in the company’s transition to the Jamaica Stock Exchange, ensuring compliance and contributing to the many industry awards Honey Bun has received.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, with an honours degree in civil engineering, Daniel has built a track record defined by innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
As he prepares to step into the role of CEO, Daniel reflected on his family’s legacy and shared his vision for the future:
“I am honoured to lead Honey Bun into its next chapter. My parents’ vision, values, and dedication have shaped the company into what it is today, and I am committed to building on that foundation while pursuing growth and innovation.”
Michelle Chong, co-founder and outgoing CEO, expressed her confidence in Daniel’s leadership:
“It has been a privilege to serve as CEO of Honey Bun. Daniel’s deep understanding of the business, combined with his strategic vision, makes him the right leader to guide us into the future.”
