
Danielle Williams’ imperious form this season was on show again on Friday night (February 11) when she ran a world-leading 7.75 seconds to win the 60m hurdles at the Tiger Paw Invitational in South Carolina.
The time was a brand new lifetime best for the 2015 100m hurdles world champion, who last Sunday set a personal-best mark of 7.83s at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in New York.
It was also the second-fastest time ever by a Jamaican woman, just 0.01 off Michelle Freeman’s national record of 7.74s set back in 1998 in Madrid, Spain.
North Carolina’s Paula Salmon was pretty quick herself, clocking 7.83s for second place, while Masai Russell of Kentucky claimed the final podium spot in 7.93a.
Also at the meet, Barbados’ multi-eventer Akela Jones set a new facility record in the long jump leaping out to 7.80m to claim victory over Jamaican Olympian Chanice Porter (6.55m). Tifanny Flynn was third with a 6.49m effort.
St Lucia’s Julien Alfred was fleetest of foot in the 60m dash. The Texas Longhorn sped to victory in 7.26 holding off the challenge of Symone Darius (7.27). Fellow longhorn Kevona Davis was third in 7.35.
Rasheem Brown of the Cayman Islands, a senior at North Carolina A&T was third in the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.68s. His teammate Leonard Mustari, a freshman, clocked 7.55s for the win, edging out Clemson’s Devon Brooks, who was timed in 7.56.
