Dr Dayton Campbell has officially been elected the new People’s National Party (PNP) general secretary on Sunday (November 29), while Phillip Paulwell will serve as chairman.

Campbell and Paulwell were duly elected for the high-profile positions by a sizeable 86 per cent turnout of National Executive Council (NEC) members of the party.

The NEC meeting was held at Jamaica College’s Karl Hendrickson Auditorium in St Andrew and saw 288 of the NEC’s 336 members voting.

Dayton Campbell received 147 votes, confirming his ascension to the role general secretary, while Raymond Pryce amassed 138.

Jennifer Housen, who initially availed herself for the gen sec position, seemingly pulled out as she not among the candidates who received votes.

Phillip Paulwell was the recipient of 153 NEC votes—a considerable margin from contender Angela Brown Burke’s 133 votes for party chairman.

It would seem an even split for the #GoWithGolding camp and the PNP’s old guard, as Campbell and Paulwell backed Mark Golding and Lisa Hanna respectively.
