International hospitality group MGM Muthu will launch into the Jamaican market with the opening of Grand Muthu Club Caribbean Runaway Bay in St Ann on August 1, 2025.

The hotel’s debut in Jamaica follows the acquisition of the property from Decameron All-Inclusive Hotels and Resorts (Decameron Hotels), which ceases operations on July 31, for an undisclosed sum.

In a notice on LinkedIn, posted Tuesday (June 24), MGM Muthu shared, “We’re thrilled to announce the latest jewel in our Caribbean crown – the Grand Muthu Club Caribbean Runaway Bay, Jamaica will officially open on 1st August!”

”Part of our vision to create immersive stays in Cuba, Jamaica, and beyond, this opening marks another milestone in delivering unforgettable experiences across the region,” it added.

The MGM group of companies, founded by Dr MG Muthu in 1963, is one of Europe’s leading hospitality chains. It has 50 hotels across Portugal, Spain, France, Cuba, Kenya, England, Scotland, India, and now Jamaica.

On its website, MGM Muthu revealed plans for more hotels to open soon in Jamaica.

Decameron update

Decameron Hotels has since disclosed that it will cease operating at the Runaway Bay, St Ann property, under the name Decameron Club Caribbean, Ramada All Inclusive as of on July 31.

“We want to reassure you and your clients that our top priority is to ensure a smooth and seamless transition, with no disruption to the quality of service and guest experience we are known for,” a letter from Decameron read.

Decameron Decameron Club Caribbean Runaway Bay in St Ann will cease operations on July 31, then will open on August 1 as Grand Muthu Club Caribbean Runaway Bay.

“Until the cease of operations date, the hotel will continue to operate at full Decameron standards, and therefore, we will maintain the warmth, attention, and hospitality that defines us,” it continued.

Still, it encourages guests to “keep promoting Club Caribbean for travel up to the closure date, as we remain fully operational and committed to mutual success throughout this period.”

Decameron is offering its guests who have booked beyond July 31 free accommodations at its Decameron Montego Bay Beach property located on the famed Hip Strip.

Club Caribbean origins

In 1969, Richard Patrick Salm, with help from Frank Pringle, began construction of Club Caribbean in Salem, Runaway Bay, on reclaimed swamp land. A year later, the property opened it gates to the public as a “swimsuit optional” resort with 60 one-bedroom circular beach cottages and an administrative building, and a swimming pool.

In 1992, construction began on the second phase. A decade later, Royal Decameron bought and completely refurbished the property,y which became the all-inclusive Royal Decameron Club Caribbean.
