
New flights represent an additional 25,000 seats from now to April 2023

Delta Air Line has kicked off a pair of new routes from Boston and Detroit in the United States to the Puerto Rican capital of San Juan.
The airline has just started the new non-stop service from both Boston Logan Airport and Detroit’s Wayne County Airport to San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. The new flights represent an additional 25,000 seats for Puerto Rico’s tourism industry between December and April 2023.
The new route between Boston Logan International Airport and San Juan will be operating daily until April 23, 2023. The service from Detroit, one of Delta’s key US cities, will be operating once-weekly on Saturdays through April 8.

Both routes will be operated on Delta’s B739 aircraft with capacity for 180 passengers. Puerto Rico is now seeing a wave of new airlift in the last few years as the Caribbean island’s tourism industry has boomed amid the pandemic.
Carlos Mercado Santiago, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, said the increase in routes and frequencies from important domestic and international flight centres added to the offering of greater convenience to travelers looking for a place to spend the winter season, will no doubt boosts economic activity, benefits thousands of local workers in the local tourism sector.
“The air access sector continues to strengthen as renowned airlines, such as Delta Air Lines, continue betting on the combination of modern infrastructure, diversity of options, and accessibility that Puerto Rico has as a world-class destination in the Caribbean region.”

He added that the move will also increase the contribution from the tourism sector to the development of the island’s economy.
Santiago explained that “the air access sector continues to strengthen as renowned airlines, such as Delta Air Lines, continue betting on the combination of modern infrastructure, diversity of options, and accessibility that Puerto Rico has as a world-class destination in the Caribbean region”.
For her part, Amy Martin, vice president of International Network Planning for Delta Airlines, remarked: “Puerto Rico is one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, especially for Delta customers. Now Delta customers in San Juan will have access to two additional flight hubs in the United States, where they can conveniently connect to more destinations around the world.”
She pledged that Delta will continue to work to provide our customers with more flight options along with Delta’s renowned hospitality and reliability.
