The following is an Independence Day message from Denise Daley, the People’s National Party (PNP) Opposition spokesperson on Culture, Gender, and Transformation:
Happy 61st Independence Day, my fellow Jamaicans!
Today, as we celebrate our nation’s remarkable journey towards freedom and self-determination, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude for the progress we have made. From the struggles of the past to the triumphs of the present, Jamaica has shown the world what it truly means to be strong and resilient.
As the Shadow Minister on Culture, Gender, and Transformation, I want to commend all Jamaicans who have contributed to our nation’s growth and development. Our achievements in various fields, be it culture, sports, education, or technology, have been nothing short of extraordinary. We are a people rich in heritage and diversity, and that is something to cherish and celebrate.

However, on this Independence Day, let us also reflect on the work that remains ahead. While we have accomplished much, there is still more to do to create a society that truly leaves no one behind. We must continue our efforts to uplift the marginalised, empower the vulnerable, and promote gender equality in all aspects of life.
As we move forward, let us remember that unity is our greatest asset. Together, we can overcome any challenge and build a brighter future for every Jamaican. We must foster a sense of community that embraces diversity and inclusivity, for it is in these principles that our true strength lies.
Our cultural heritage is a treasure that must be preserved and celebrated. It is the essence of who we are as a nation, and we must ensure that it thrives and evolves for generations to come. Let us invest in the arts, support our artists, and promote the rich tapestry of Jamaican culture to the world.
Education remains a cornerstone of progress, and we must continue to invest in our schools and educators to provide our youth with the tools they need to succeed. By empowering our children with knowledge, we are shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

In the pursuit of transformation, let us also prioritise sustainable development and environmental protection. Our beautiful island must be preserved for future generations to enjoy. Let us be stewards of the land, sea, and air, so that Jamaica remains a paradise for all.
On this Independence Day, I call on all Jamaicans to embrace the spirit of patriotism and unity with an unwavering commitment to justice for all. Let us strive to build a society where every individual is treated with fairness and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances.
We must work tirelessly to eliminate inequality and ensure that the principles of justice prevail in every aspect of our nation’s governance. Only when justice is accessible to all can we truly claim to have achieved the full potential of our independence. Let us stand together, shoulder to shoulder, in the pursuit of a Jamaica where every citizen’s rights are protected, and where the scales of justice remain balanced for generations to come.

Happy Independence Day, Jamaica! May the light of freedom and progress shine brightly upon us all. One love, one nation, one Jamaica!
