Orlando Magic guard Desmond Bane is lighter in the wallet this week after the NBA hit him with a $35,000 fine for rifling a basketball at Knicks forward OG Anunoby during Sunday’s game at Madison Square Garden.
The incident happened in the fourth quarter, right after Anunoby botched a layup and tumbled out of bounds. Bane scooped up the loose ball and fired it at him with plenty of heat, leaving everyone, including Anunoby, wondering what on earth sparked it. Anunoby got up and gave Bane a shove, and officials quickly handed Bane a technical.
The league reviewed the moment and ruled the throw crossed the line, unsportsmanlike behaviour, leading to Monday’s fine announcement.
As if losing 106–100 to the Knicks wasn’t rough enough, Bane now has an expensive reminder of a moment he probably wishes he could take back.
