Twitter, Donald Trump’s former playground, was set alight on Monday (January 11) as users shared what appeared to a notice of the US president ‘ending his term’ sometime tonight.

A terse message surfaced on the official website of the US State Department, claiming that Donald Trump’s term as president would “end” at conflicting times—7:39 pm, 7:40 pm, 7:49 pm—sending Twitter into a frenzy.

The update, which appeared on the biographical section of the State Department website, also showed similar wording for Vice President Mike Pence.

However, a State Department source told Buzzfeed News that the updates were the work of a “disgruntled staffer”.

“Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is launching an investigation after biographical pages for the president and vice president were changed on Monday,” Buzzfeed reported.
