Dianne Plummer launches children’s book series to foster STEM literacy in Jamaica

STEM literacy advocate, Dianne Plummer, officially launched the first two instalments of her STEM Education Children’s Book Series aimed at supporting national objectives and empowering Jamaican youth in STEM education.

The launch event recently held at the Courtleigh Hotel featured support from guests, including Dr Natwaine Gardner – principal director, science in the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport (MSET); Dr Olive-Jean Burrowes, executive director of the National Commission on Science and Technology; and Sophia Lewis, head of the JPS Foundation.

The first two installments, Science in the Sun (ages 3-7) and A Girl’s Guide to STEM (ages 7-14), are designed to instil foundational STEM concepts into the minds of the country’s future leaders excitingly and engagingly. Aligned with national objectives to foster STEM literacy and empower the youth in science, Plummer is committed to contributing to Jamaica’s vision of cultivating a skilled STEM workforce. Plummer’s extended vision includes an ongoing outreach programme spanning schools and communities across the island.

Plummer is seeking corporate sponsorship and support for the programme, which is geared towards expanding STEM Literacy islandwide, using her books as the foundational resources for each outreach initiative.
