Sean “Diddy” Combs was denied bail after pleading not guilty to a series of federal charges, including sex trafficking, rape and racketeering.
The decision came on Tuesday, September 17, during a hearing in Manhattan where Judge Robyn F Tarnofsky ruled that Combs would remain in custody as the case proceeds.
These allegations, if proven, could mean a minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison for the hip-hop mogul.
Combs’ legal team had requested bail, arguing that the rapper posed no flight risk and should be allowed to await trial outside of jail. However, the judge agreed with federal prosecutors and insisted that the gravity of the charges and the potential consequences made bail inappropriate in this case.

Earlier today, US attorney Damian Williams announced the unsealing of a federal indictment against music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. The indictment, unveiled in Manhattan, accuses Combs of a decade-long scheme involving sex trafficking and racketeering.
Prosecutors allege that starting in 2009, Combs exploited his influence and media empire, including Bad Boy Entertainment, to coerce women and male sex workers into participating in sexual performances called ‘Freak Offs’. During these events, Combs allegedly watched and recorded the acts, using the footage as blackmail to keep his victims silent and employing intimidation tactics.
With bail denied, Combs will stay in custody while his legal team mounts a defence against the charges.
