The Pacific’s largest mobile phone operator, Digicel is being linked to organized data theft in Africa.

In fact, the allegation is that the Pacific operations of the Jamaican headquartered telecoms firm has likely been used by private spy firms to track people in Africa and steal their data.

The allegation stems from an analysis done by the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab, which shared its findings with the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and ABC Pacific media network.

The revelations come after Telstra purchased the Fiji-based Digicel Pacific in July 2022, a buyout that the Australian government put two billion towards over fears China could gain a foothold.

Our Today wishes to make clear that there is no allegation of unscrupulous activity on the part of Digicel Pacific.
