The Cayman operations of Jamaica-based regional telecoms firm, Digicel, has advised customers there that a competition circulating on social media claiming to be from the company is a scam.
In the scam, a link is sent by WhatsApp and, when clicked, will take people to what appears to be Digicel’s page. There is then a congratulatory message telling people they can claim a gift.
Digicel Cayman is urging customers not to be duped.
In a statement, Digicel Cayman advised: “This competition is not associated with Digicel Cayman in any way, we take this opportunity to emphasise that we are not conducting any such giveaway, and the messages or calls you may receive regarding this competition are fraudulent.”
Digicel said its team is investigating the issue and taking measures to address it. However, the company is urging customers to be cautious and not to engage in suspicious communications requesting personal information.
“Our priority is to protect our valued customers from such scams and maintain your trust in our services. Rest assured, we will continue to provide a safe and reliable experience for all our customers,” Digicel said in its statement.
