Digicel says it has transitioned to full preparation mode for the potential tropical storm that is expected to start affecting Jamaica late Monday or early Tuesday morning.
The telecoms provider said it has readied its network, people, and resources ahead of the storm. Digicel said in a release that it has put its adverse weather contingency plan into high gear to ensure that everything is in place to best manage the events of the coming days.
Specifically, Digicel said it has ensured that all cell sites and fibre optic installations across the island are in good order and ready to go. These measures are in addition to Digicel playing a pivotal role in coordinating Jamaica’s national response.
“Beginning with preparatory messages to our customers and the wider public, we’ve also been busy collaborating with key disaster preparedness stakeholders, including ODPEM, first responders, and even our competitor. We’re taking an all-hands approach to Jamaica’s response,” commented Stephen Murad, CEO of Digicel Jamaica.
In urging everyone to do all they can to prepare for the potential storm, Murad shared: “Our primary concern is the safety of our people. We take this opportunity to remind everyone to take the necessary steps to stay safe and prepare for the storm by stocking up on basic items, securing their homes, keeping their phones charged and topped up so that they can keep in touch with their loved ones. Likewise, we have done everything possible to ensure that we are ready to weather the storm and have mobilised our technical teams and field engineers across the island.”
As a critical provider of advanced digital communication services to Jamaica, Digicel said it understands how important it is to stay connected, with the need being even greater before, during and after any major storm event.
