Regional telecommunications provider Digicel has procured the services of Talkpool to restore its mobile and fiber-optic communications networks following the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.

The category 5 storm made landfall on Jamaica on October 28, causing extensive damage to housing, water, electricity, telecommunications, and road infrastructure.

The Government of Jamaica estimates the total economic damage is between US$6 billion and US$7 billion—equivalent to nearly a third of the nation’s GDP—while some experts have projected losses could reach as high as US$16 billion.

Talkpool has mobilised specialised recovery teams to support Digicel’s efforts to rapidly repair and stabilise its mobile telephony and fibre-optic networks. These efforts will help restore essential communication services that are critical for emergency response, business continuity, and national recovery.

A Nasdaq First North-listed company, Talkpool is a telecommunications network services provider operating globally with extensive experience in network planning, fibre deployment, and innovative technology-enabled value-added services.  The company serves major telecommunications operators and enterprises across multiple continents.

Talkpool has been a trusted service partner of Digicel since 2006, with a history of supporting post-disaster network restoration. The company previously helped Digicel and other major operators such as AT&T rebuild their networks after numerous hurricanes and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

“Connectivity is the backbone of recovery,” said Erik Strömstedt, CEO of Talkpool.
