Telecommunications provider Digicel has officially ended its 2G network service as of midnight on Wednesday, September 4.
This shutdown means that customers using 2G phones will no longer have access to network services.
The discontinuation affects push-button phones, commonly known as ‘bangers,’ as well as point-of-sale systems and vehicle trackers that depend solely on Digicel’s 2G network.
Digicel began notifying customers about the 2G network termination 18 months ago.
The company reports that thousands of customers have already accepted their offer for upgraded complimentary devices.
