The new season of Digicel Rising Stars is off to a great start with many talented Jamaicans vying for a chance to be the next big thing.

As the contestants sing their hearts out, many Jamaican are locked in on Sunday nights, trying to predict who will take the crown.

But, how can we forget the previous winners of Digicel Rising Stars? Where are they now?

While some have managed to go off and have successful careers, others were not as fortunate.

Our Today did all the digging for you and here is what we found.

One Third – Digicel Rising Stars 2006 winner

The musical trio of Al Johnson, Adrian Campbell and Miguel Walters won the hearts of Jamaican with their sweet harmonies back in 2006.

However, they disappeared from the entertainment scene shortly after, popping back up in 2018 with their five-track EP, The Journey.

The album included titles such as SurvivorHitchhikerAny DaySmile and Hotspot that are all available on Apple music.

But, despite their best efforts to maintain the group, One-Third is now a half. Though we cannot pin point when this happened, the group confirmed on Instagram that Al Johnson left, turning the musical trio into a duo.

The duo of Adrian Campbell and Miguel Walter continued the journey, performing at Reggae Wednesdays in 2020. But, there has been little heard about the group since.

Cameal DavisDigicel Rising Stars 2008 winner

Cameal Davis

Davis’ career got off to a good start. After winning in 2008, she went on to perform at numerous events on the hotel circuit and all across Jamaica.

Currently, she has a YouTube channel where she releases covers to popular songs such as I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor.

She is also a mother to eight-year-old Cadelia, with whom she creates multiple TikTok videos on a daily.

Davis also released her album, The Hit List, in 2009, featuring 14 songs, including her infamous rendition of Spotlight by Jennifer Hudson.

In addition to pursuing her music career, Davis used her voice to be an advocate for the environment.

She sang her heart out at the Panos Caribbean Voices for Climate Change Education initiative where she raised awareness for climate change.

Brown Sugar (or Shuga) – Digicel Rising Stars 2009 winner

Mitsy Campbell, aka Shuga.

With a voice as sweet as sugar, she was able to take the crown in the Digicel Rising Stars 2009 singing competition. Since winning, her career has blossomed.

Just three years later, she released her song 9.58, paying tribute to sprint legend Usain Bolt.

As she would have hoped, the song kickstarted her career, making her another success story coming out of the singing competition.

Mitsy Campbell, aka Brown Shuga rebranded shortly after, changing her performance name to Shuga, due to conflict with another personality who also goes by the name Brown Shuga.

She also released Ebony, One People and Talk About, along with her new single released this year called Dear Mr Government.

Now, she is verified on Instagram and spends much of her time touring internationally and locally, sharing her songs at reggae events.

Chantel ‘Tash’ Lamont – Digicel Rising Stars 2011 winner

At just 17 years old, a young and hopeful Tash Lamont wanted to take her musical journey to the next level. But, first she needed a platform that would jumpstart her career.

Feeling hopeful, she signed up for the Digicel Rising Stars competition in 2011 and came out on top as the winner.

Despite her big dreams, she struggled to receive airplay for her songs, but never gave up, releasing her album Royal King in 2021 on Amazon.

Now she performs at local events as a pop, reggae and dancehall artiste, still awaiting her ‘big buss’.

Andre ‘T Rizzy’ Tyrell – Digicel Rising Stars 2014 winner

After hitching a ride to Kingston to pursue his dreams, T Rizzy was certain he would be crowned the 2014 winner and he was correct.

It was his rendition of Cupid by Sam Cooke that gained him a spot in the competition. But, like any other contestants, limited exposure resulted in a semi successful career.

Though he did get the big buss he wanted, T Rizzy never gave up on his dream, performing at many local events, weddings, funerals and more.
